Shock at World Athletics! Neeraj Chopra Slips to 8th, Sachin Yadav Stuns with 4th-Place Finish in Javelin Final

In the men’s javelin final at the World Athletics Championships, Neeraj Chopra ended up in eighth place, while his fellow Indian athlete Sachin Yadav narrowly missed out on a medal by finishing fourth. The competition saw no thrower crossing the 90-metre mark.

Chopra, who had won gold at the same venue previously, opened with a strong throw of 84.65 metres, then followed with 83.03m on his second attempt. His third throw was a foul. On his fourth effort, he managed 82.86m. His fifth throw, his best for the day, measured 84.03m, but it wasn’t enough to make the top ranks.

Sachin Yadav had a standout performance, setting a personal best with his very first throw of 86.27 metres, which placed him ahead of Chopra and several other established competitors. Despite this achievement, Yadav missed a podium finish, ending fourth.

The medalists were Keshorn Walcott (gold), Anderson Peters (silver), and Curtis Thompson (bronze). Their winning distances were 88.16m for Walcott, 87.38m for Peters, and marginally less for Thompson.

Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra showed visible frustration during some of his attempts, indicating how high expectations were. Although his earlier season marks had sometimes been above 90 metres, he was unable to produce that again in this final.

Overall, this result reflects strong performances by both Indian throwers—with Yadav emerging as a rising name—but also the tough challenge posed by international competitors under pressure.
